Klovn - Plot
Klovn is a Danish sitcom, which first aired on the Danish TV channel TV2 Zulu. It focuses on the life of the main character Frank and Casper. The show builds its comedy around quiet everyday situations, social awkwardness, uncomfortable silences and general faux pas. Klovn usually gets compared to the American sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm by Larry David. It's also shot handheld, in a pseudo-realistic style. Some have also mistakenly compared the theme to Curb Your Enthusiasm's, despite it being a direct reference to Jacques Tati's Mr. Hulot movies. The poster for the first film can be seen in Casper and Frank's offices throughout the series. Klovn initially ran 6 seasons on TV2 Zulu from 2005-2009 and was renewed with an additional 3 seasons that aired from 2018-2022.

Klovn - FAQs
Is Klovn similar to Curb Your Enthusiasm?
The comparison is common, but Klovn actually draws its comedic DNA from Jacques Tati's Mr. Hulot films rather than Curb Your Enthusiasm. Like Curb, it uses a handheld, pseudo-realistic shooting style and mines social awkwardness for laughs, but its European sensibility and cultural roots set it distinctly apart.
How many seasons does Klovn have in total?
Klovn has run for 10 seasons across 94 episodes. The original run covered six seasons on TV 2 Zulu from 2005 to 2009, followed by a revival that brought three more seasons between 2018 and 2022, with a tenth season continuing the story.
Where can you watch Klovn in the UK?
Viewing options for Klovn vary by region and platform availability. Your best bet is to check JustWatch for the most up-to-date streaming, rental, and purchase options available in your area, as availability can change across different services over time.
Who plays the main characters in Klovn?
The show is built around Casper Christensen and Frank Hvam, who play fictionalised versions of themselves. The supporting cast includes Mia Lyhne as Mia, Iben Hjejle as Iben, Lars Hjortshøj as Lars, and Claire Ross-Brown as Claire, all playing characters closely mirroring their real-life personas.
Is Klovn based on real people and events?
Klovn is a scripted comedy, but it blurs the line between fiction and reality deliberately. Casper Christensen and Frank Hvam play exaggerated versions of themselves, and much of the supporting cast does the same. The mockumentary-style format lends it an authenticity that makes the cringe comedy hit harder.
Is Klovn still ongoing or has it ended?
Klovn is still a returning series and currently in production. After the original six-season run ended in 2009, the show was revived in 2018 and has continued adding new seasons, with the most recent tenth season extending the story through 2025.
Who created and wrote Klovn?
Klovn was created by Casper Christensen and Frank Hvam, who also star in the series. The writing team includes Neel Feldstedt and, notably, Lars von Trier among the credited writers, reflecting the show's connections to Denmark's broader creative film and television community.
What shows are similar to Klovn?
If Klovn's blend of cringe comedy and mockumentary style appeals to you, Dead Like Me offers a darkly comic tone worth exploring. For more character-driven ensemble comedy, How I Met Your Father and Girlfriends provide engaging alternatives, while fans of awkward social humour often gravitate toward Curb Your Enthusiasm as a natural companion watch.
