OniAi - FAQs
What is OniAi about?
OniAi follows Akiko Himenokoji, a cheerful girl with an intense brother complex, as she reunites with her older brother Akito after years apart. Their cozy reunion is quickly upended when three beautiful student council members move in, turning the household into a chaotic harem comedy full of rivalry and awkward situations.
Why does Akiko have a brother complex in OniAi?
Akiko's deep attachment to her brother Akito stems from their long separation after their parents passed away. Years apart intensified her feelings into an unmistakable romantic obsession. The series plays this dynamic for comedy, with Akiko constantly scheming to monopolize Akito's attention while he firmly — if awkwardly — keeps her at arm's length.
Where can you stream OniAi?
OniAi is available to stream on Crunchyroll, including through the Crunchyroll Amazon Channel. Both options offer the full series as part of a subscription. For a complete overview of viewing options available in your region, JustWatch is a handy resource to check current availability.
Are Akiko and Akito actually related in OniAi?
This is one of OniAi's central running gags. While Akiko and Akito are raised as siblings, the series deliberately keeps viewers guessing about the true nature of their relationship. The show's original Japanese title — which roughly translates to 'Even if he's my brother, as long as there's love, it doesn't matter, right?' — hints at the ambiguity the story enjoys teasing.
Who voices the main characters in OniAi?
The main cast features Ryota Osaka as Akito Himenokoji and Ibuki Kido as the lovesick Akiko. The three student council rivals are voiced by Minori Chihara as the cool Anastasia Nasuhara, Asami Shimoda as the tomboyish Ginbei Haruomi Sawatari, and Eri Kitamura as the assertive Arashi Nikaido.
How many episodes does OniAi have?
OniAi ran for 12 main episodes across its single season, which aired in autumn 2012. There are also 6 additional special episodes collected under Season 0, giving dedicated fans a bit of extra content beyond the core series. All episodes run approximately 25 minutes each.
Is OniAi based on a light novel or manga?
OniAi is adapted from a Japanese light novel series written by Daisuke Suzuki and published by Media Factory under the MF Bunko J imprint. The novels began in 2010 and the anime adaptation, produced by SILVER LINK., faithfully captures the comedic tone and harem dynamics of the source material.
What anime series are similar to OniAi?
Fans of OniAi tend to enjoy Haganai: I Don't Have Many Friends for its awkward social comedy, Yosuga no Sora for its similarly taboo romantic premise, and Seiren for its anthology-style romance. My First Girlfriend Is a Gal and My Girlfriend Is Shobitch also share OniAi's irreverent ecchi humor and high school setting.
