Chapelwaite - FAQs
Is Chapelwaite based on a Stephen King story?
Chapelwaite is adapted from Stephen King's 1978 short story 'Jerusalem's Lot,' which itself serves as a prequel to his novel Salem's Lot. The series expands the source material considerably, transforming a brief epistolary tale into a full ten-episode gothic horror narrative set in 1850s Maine.
What is the family curse at the heart of Chapelwaite?
The Boone family is bound to a generations-old darkness rooted in the abandoned town of Jerusalem's Lot. Vampiric evil has haunted the bloodline for centuries, and Captain Charles Boone's return to Chapelwaite forces him to confront this inherited horror before it consumes his children and the surrounding community.
Where can you stream Chapelwaite?
Chapelwaite is available to stream on MGM+, fuboTV, and Philo. You can also access it through MGM+ Amazon Channel and MGM Plus Roku Premium Channel. If you prefer to own it, episodes are available for purchase on the Apple TV Store.
Who plays Captain Charles Boone in Chapelwaite?
Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody leads the cast as Captain Charles Boone, a grieving sea captain who moves his three children to his ancestral Maine estate. Brody also served as an executive producer on the series, bringing both creative investment and a commanding screen presence to the role.
Is Chapelwaite connected to Salem's Lot?
The connection is direct and intentional. King's original short story 'Jerusalem's Lot' was written as a prequel to Salem's Lot, and Chapelwaite honors that lineage. The series establishes the vampire mythology and the cursed geography of Jerusalem's Lot that would later resurface in King's celebrated novel.
How was Chapelwaite received by critics?
Critical reception was mixed but leaned positive for its atmospheric ambition and Adrien Brody's performance. Reviewers praised the show's lush period setting and gothic mood, while some noted the pacing could feel deliberate across its ten episodes. Brody's commanding lead turn was consistently highlighted as the series' strongest asset.
Will there be a Season 2 of Chapelwaite?
Chapelwaite concluded after a single season in 2021 and has not been renewed. The series was designed as a limited event, adapting its source material within a self-contained ten-episode run. As of now, the story ends with Season 1, and no continuation has been announced by Epix or MGM+.
What shows are similar to Chapelwaite?
Fans of Chapelwaite's gothic horror atmosphere will likely enjoy Penny Dreadful, which blends Victorian dread with literary monsters, and Dracula (2020) for its sharp vampire mythology. Buffy the Vampire Slayer offers a lighter but equally lore-rich take on the genre for viewers seeking something with broader tonal range.
