Clara travels to the south of France to take care of all of the paperwork after the death of her long-lost twin sister Yvonne. There, she meets David, her deceased sister's husband, at his country estate. Instead of just taking care of all the formalities and trying to put her sister's suppressed life behind her, Clara develops a yearning attraction to this an unknown lifestyle. Sensing encouragement from David, she slips into Yvonne's role and, together, they dream up a new everyday reality. But when Frank, a supposed business partner of David's, shows up, the schizophrenic idyll turns into a merciless game of cat-and-mouse.
