Dark Phoenix - FAQs
Where can you stream Dark Phoenix online?
Dark Phoenix is available to stream on Disney Plus and fuboTV. It can also be streamed live via YouTube TV and FXNow at no additional cost. For those who prefer digital ownership, it is available to buy or rent on Amazon Video, Apple TV, Google Play Movies, YouTube, and Fandango At Home.
Does Jean Grey die at the end of Dark Phoenix?
At the film's climax, Jean Grey sacrifices herself to save the X-Men and the alien soldiers aboard a runaway train. She unleashes the full power of the Phoenix Force to destroy Vuk and the D'Bari threat, apparently perishing in the process. The closing scene, however, suggests the Phoenix endures beyond death.
Is Dark Phoenix based on a comic book storyline?
Yes. Dark Phoenix adapts the iconic 'The Dark Phoenix Saga' from Uncanny X-Men comics (1980), written by Chris Claremont with art by John Byrne. It is widely regarded as one of Marvel's greatest storylines. The film is also a loose remake of X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), which previously attempted the same source material.
Who are the main actors in Dark Phoenix?
Dark Phoenix stars Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, James McAvoy as Professor X, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Evan Peters as Quicksilver, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, and Jessica Chastain as the alien antagonist Vuk.
What is the age rating for Dark Phoenix?
Dark Phoenix is rated PG-13 in the United States, meaning it is suitable for viewers aged 13 and older. Parents are cautioned that the film contains intense sequences of sci-fi violence, action, and some language. International ratings vary: 12A in the UK, 12 in Germany and Brazil, and M in Australia and New Zealand.
How long is Dark Phoenix?
Dark Phoenix has a runtime of 1 hour and 54 minutes (114 minutes). It is notably the shortest film in the main X-Men film series, a fact partly attributed to significant reshoots and editorial restructuring that took place after the film's original cut tested poorly with preview audiences.
Who directed Dark Phoenix and wrote the screenplay?
Dark Phoenix was both directed and written by Simon Kinberg, marking his feature directorial debut. Kinberg had previously served as a writer and producer on multiple X-Men films, including X-Men: Days of Future Past and X-Men: Apocalypse. The film's score was composed by Hans Zimmer.
How was Dark Phoenix received by critics and audiences?
Dark Phoenix received largely negative reviews, earning around 22% on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics found the story underdeveloped and the emotional stakes unearned compared to the source material. Audiences were similarly lukewarm. The film grossed approximately $252 million worldwide against a $200 million budget, making it a significant box office disappointment.
