366 Days - FAQs

What is 366 Days about?

366 Days follows Miu, an Okinawan girl who falls for Minato after he loses his parents. Their bond grows through mixtapes and a long-distance relationship, but an unexpected breakup separates them. Twenty years later, Miu—now terminally ill—sends her daughter to Tokyo to deliver one final message to the man she once loved.

Why does Minato break up with Miu in 366 Days?

The film keeps Minato's reasons deliberately ambiguous at first, making the breakup all the more painful. The story revisits this rupture through Himari's journey to Tokyo, gradually revealing the emotional weight behind his decision and what it meant for both of their lives in the years that followed.

What message does Himari deliver to Minato?

Himari carries a MiniDisk—the same format Miu and Minato once used to share mixtapes—containing a final message from her terminally ill mother. The delivery becomes the emotional centerpiece of the film, bridging the couple's past and present and giving Minato the closure Miu was never able to offer in person.

Where can I watch 366 Days?

You can check current streaming and rental availability for 366 Days on JustWatch, which lists all platforms offering the film in your region. Options may vary depending on your country, so it's worth checking regularly as new platforms pick up the title.

Who stars in 366 Days?

The film stars Eiji Akaso as Minato and Moka Kamishiraishi as Miu, with Yuto Nakajima playing Ryusei and Tina Tamashiro as Kasumi. The supporting cast includes Junpei Mizobata, Kurumi Inagaki, Ryoko Kuninaka, and Hikari Ishida, rounding out a strong ensemble.

Is 366 Days based on a true story or book?

366 Days is adapted from a popular Japanese novel. The story draws on deeply relatable themes of young love, loss, and the passage of time, which helped the source material build a devoted readership before the film adaptation brought it to a wider audience in early 2025.

What is the significance of MiniDisks in 366 Days?

MiniDisks serve as the emotional thread running through the entire film. Miu first connects with Minato by exchanging handmade mixtapes on the format, a deeply personal gesture rooted in early-2000s Japanese youth culture. Decades later, a MiniDisk becomes the vessel for Miu's final words, giving the format a quietly devastating symbolic weight.
