Funny Man - FAQs

What is Funny Man about?

Funny Man follows Max Taylor, who wins a creepy English mansion in a poker game — only to discover it comes with a deadly resident. A cackling, demonic jester begins picking off Max's family one by one with increasingly bizarre methods, while more unsuspecting visitors head straight into the carnage.

Is Funny Man a horror film or a comedy?

It's both — Funny Man leans hard into horror-comedy territory. The film blends genuinely gruesome kills with dark, irreverent humor delivered by its wisecracking jester villain. Think Freddy Krueger's one-liners crossed with British pantomime absurdity. Fans of campy, self-aware horror will feel right at home.

What is Christopher Lee's role in Funny Man?

Christopher Lee plays Callum Chance, the enigmatic original owner of the cursed mansion who loses it in the fateful poker game. It's a relatively brief but memorable appearance — Lee brings his trademark gravitas to the role, lending the film an air of legitimacy that its low budget might otherwise lack.

Where can you watch Funny Man online?

Streaming availability for Funny Man varies by region and platform. Your best bet is to check JustWatch, which tracks current rental, purchase, and streaming options across all major services in your area. Availability can change, so it's worth checking regularly if you're hunting this one down.

Who directed Funny Man and wrote the script?

Simon Sprackling both wrote and directed Funny Man — making it a genuine passion project. It was his feature directorial debut, and his script leans into the absurdist, comedic side of horror. Sprackling clearly had a vision for the Funny Man character as a darkly comic, theatrical villain.

Is Funny Man worth watching for horror fans?

If you enjoy low-budget British horror with a sense of humor, Funny Man is a cult gem worth seeking out. It's rough around the edges, but Tim James's unhinged performance as the jester and Christopher Lee's cameo make it a fun, offbeat watch — especially for fans of 1990s horror oddities.

What is the Funny Man jester character like?

Played by Tim James, the Funny Man is a gleefully sadistic demonic jester who dispatches his victims with theatrical flair and dark punchlines. He's part supernatural monster, part stand-up comedian — constantly riffing as he kills. The character draws obvious comparisons to Freddy Krueger but with a distinctly British, pantomime-villain twist.

What are some films similar to Funny Man?

If Funny Man hits the spot, you might enjoy Fright Night Part 2, Night of the Demons 2, Fido, All About Evil, or Gatlopp: Hell of a Game — all films that mix horror with dark comedy and a healthy dose of irreverence. They share that same gleefully twisted spirit.
