Anaden vol.2 "Nosferatu in the Mist - The Legend of Dracula" - FAQs
What is Anaden vol.2 Nosferatu in the Mist about?
The film weaves together two timelines: in the 15th century, a grief-stricken Vlad III curses God and embraces immortal darkness after losing his queen. Centuries later, lawyer Jonathan Harker uncovers the terrifying truth about Count Dracula and joins his friends in a desperate bid to stop the vampire's sinister plans.
Is Anaden vol.2 a Japanese take on Dracula?
Yes, it's a distinctly Japanese reimagining of the classic Dracula legend. Directed by Hiroki Murakami and performed in Japanese, the film blends the historical Vlad III with Bram Stoker's iconic vampire mythology, offering a fresh perspective on the centuries-old story through a Japanese theatrical lens.
Who plays Count Dracula in this film?
Seiichiro Nagata takes on the dual role of Dracula and Vlad III, the tortured Wallachian king whose grief transforms him into an immortal monster. Shogo Tamura plays Jonathan Harker, and Ryutaro Maeda portrays Van Helsing, rounding out the central trio at the heart of the story.
How does this film connect Vlad III to Dracula?
The film uses a dual-timeline structure to bridge history and myth. It opens in 15th-century Wallachia, showing how Vlad III's devastating loss and rage against God set him on the path to vampiric immortality — directly explaining the origins of the Count Dracula encountered by Harker in the 19th century.
How long is Anaden vol.2 Nosferatu in the Mist?
The film runs 2 hours and 34 minutes — a notably generous runtime that allows the story to fully explore both its 15th-century origin arc and the 19th-century Harker narrative. It's a substantial watch, but the dual-timeline structure keeps the pacing varied and engaging throughout.
What are some movies similar to this film?
If you enjoy this blend of gothic horror and vampire mythology, you might also like Dracula Untold (2014), which similarly explores Vlad III's transformation, or the classic Dracula (1979). Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009) and Priest (2011) offer more action-driven takes on dark fantasy creature lore.
When was Anaden vol.2 released in Japan?
The film premiered in Japan on September 23, 2021. It's part of the Anaden series — a Japanese theatrical franchise built around retelling beloved world legends — with this second volume focusing on the enduring myth of Dracula and his origins as the historical Vlad III.
Is Anaden vol.2 based on Bram Stoker's novel?
The film draws heavily from Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula, incorporating key characters like Jonathan Harker, Mina, Van Helsing, and Renfield. However, it expands the mythology by adding a prologue rooted in the real history of Vlad III, giving the Count a more emotionally grounded origin story.
