Who are the phantom soldiers in the film?

Is Phantom Soldiers based on real Vietnam War events?

What genre is Phantom Soldiers?
Phantom Soldiers blends several genres — it's primarily an action and war film, but it also weaves in elements of crime, thriller, and even horror. That genre-mixing gives it a grittier, more unsettling edge than a straightforward Vietnam action picture, making it a distinctive entry in the 1980s B-movie canon.
